intresting read, though i would say RSS would not be that useful as a standalone social network, though. it does not scale well, as you subscribe to more people you will either have to sacrifice bandwidth, or how quickly you will see new feed items. another reason is if you use RSS as a standalone network, it would be difficult to find new feeds. RSS still works fine for what it was intended for though, subscribing to news websites and stuff.
